Many women and couples are busy with day to day tasks and it can often be tricky (or expensive) to attend birth preparation classes. Thankfully, there are many online options and videos on YouTube that are available for labor and birth education.
One of my favorite Doctors in the area is Dr. Savage at Grandview Family Medicine in Provo, UT. She suggests that her patients watch the following YouTube video as a "crash course" which is taught by a registered nurse (RN) who has experience teaching nurses in a university setting.
The quality of the video is not amazing but the content is quite helpful.
Minute 25 she reviews breathing techniques
Minute 35 she begins talking about pain management techniques (focal point and breathing)
Minute 49 she begins talking about the THIRD STAGE OF LABOR: TRANSITION
1 hour she begins discussing pushing techniques
1 hour 18 minutes she starts the conversation about breastfeeding (positions, latching, and burping)
1 hour 30 minutes - the end of the video is a Q&A with the nurse (topics including exercise, nursing bras, pacifiers, returning to work, freezing milk, baby food, baby wash and skin care).
The following video was created by a Midwife and nurse educator named Holliday Tyson who has been working in the field for 35 years.
*I LOVE her view of male partners and husbands. It's very positive and supportive!
Minutes 1-8 are introductions
Minute 9 she beings talking about anatomy of the pelvis and various shapes that women have
Minute 13 she reviews different movements in late pregnancy to open the pelvis to offer more room for the baby
Minute 23 we review the penguin walk to help with pain management in early labor
Minute 25 we get a great explanation of how the vagina and cervix can expand in labor
Minute 32 she talks about the mucus plug (designed to stop any infection)
Minute 35 we talk about exercise during pregnancy
Minute 38 back labor!
This is one of many videos posted by Holliday, I recommend watching this video and if it is helpful for you then continue watching others that she has posted.
